Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my child need tutoring?

All children progress at different rates. It can be difficult to determine exactly how long your child will need tutoring, but we will keep you updated with their progress. You can always discuss this in more detail with your Kip McGrath teacher. We use some basic benchmarks to provide an estimation, but the most effective approach is consistent, high-quality tuition.

How much homework will my child receive?

Homework is an important part of the program. It gives the child the opportunity to consolidate and practise what they have learnt during their lesson. Homework activities may be paper-based, computer-based or a combination of both. The student should never receive homework on topics they have not covered with their tutor or tasks that are too difficult to complete independently.

Will my child progress in a small group?

Kip McGrath was built on one-to-one tuition, in a small group environment. We spend one-to-one time with each student and then allocate independent tasks. This gives the student time to apply their knowledge to the task set. Your Kip McGrath teacher will monitor the student at all times; they can see exactly what the student is completing and assist the student immediately.

My child is having trouble with some school homework and assignments. Can this be part of their program?

Kip McGrath does not provide homework help. Our goal is to help students catch up and get the most out of their learning. If your child is less than a year behind, we can include lesson activities related to the topics they are currently covering at school. We just ask for one week’s notice of any upcoming topic so we can plan it properly into their lesson. This approach helps build their confidence to succeed in the classroom environment.

What if we cannot make it to a lesson?

Consistency is best, but we understand that things can come up from time to time. When you cannot attend your regular lesson, let us know on or before the scheduled day. You can either schedule a make up class on another day or have DIY activities placed online instead. Alternatively, students can log in at their usual lesson time to complete the class face-to-face with their regular teacher.
